The Citadel women’s golf finishes eighth at Oyster Shuck Match Play

The Citadel women’s golf team finished eighth at the Oyster Shuck Match Play, which marked the start of their spring season. The event took place at the Charleston Municipal Golf Course and included a full 54-hole tournament.

In the first round on Monday, The Citadel lost to High Point with a score of 5-0. Individual match results saw Makayla Grubb defeat Sofia Vargas (8+7), Anais Arafi win over Naomi Huang (6+5), Anna Howerton beat Chaela Barnett (6+5), Eva Lye win against Kenzie McCallum (8+7), and Ella Perna secure victory over Lola Barnett (3+2).

During the second round in the consolation bracket, The Citadel faced Winthrop and lost 3-2. For The Citadel, Naomi Huang won her match against Constanca Mendonca (3+1) and Lola Barnett edged out Alayna Friedt (1-up). Winthrop’s Maelle Dreyer defeated Chaela Barnett (3+1), Iciar Canalejo overcame Sofia Vargas (6+5), and Emily Baker beat Kenzie McCallum (5+4).

On Tuesday in the seventh-place match, Presbyterian prevailed over The Citadel with a result of 3-0-2. Emma Louise Hunt tied with Kenzie McCallum, while Addy Parker bested Naomi Huang (6+5). Taylor Reaves drew with Lola Barnett, Maddie Peake defeated Chaela Barnett (6+4), and Sloane Spessard won against Sofia Vargas (6+4).
