The women’s tennis match between the College of Charleston and Nebraska was canceled due to bad weather in Charleston, South Carolina. The contest, held at the Turner Tennis Center, was stopped before it could be completed.
At the time play was halted, Nebraska had secured a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. According to officials, “the match will officially be scored as a no contest.”
In doubles action before the cancellation, Nebraska’s Catherin Gagnon and Katie Spencer defeated Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato from Charleston 6-3. Charleston’s Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle won against Reya Lee Coe and Yuzu Miyoshi from Nebraska with a score of 7-5. In another doubles match, Maria Taranova and Natalia Trigosso from Nebraska beat Harper Santos and Saige Severance from Charleston 6-2.
Singles matches were underway when rain interrupted play. Sia Cariov (Charleston) trailed Maria Taranova (Nebraska) 2-6, 1-2; Oziera Ahmad (Charleston) was behind Katie Spencer (Nebraska) 4-6, 0-1; Francesca Salvato (Charleston) was tied with Tiziana Rossini (Nebraska) at 5-5; Marra Bruce (Charleston) trailed Catherine Gagnon (Nebraska) 0-6, 0-5; Jaiden McKee (Charleston) led Reya Lee Coe (Nebraska) 6-3, 0-1; and Saige Severance (Charleston) led Yuzu Miyoshi (Nebraska) 6-5.
The College of Charleston women’s tennis team is scheduled to play again on Saturday, February 28 at Nicholls State.
