Jim Newsome has been the President and CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority and has done a wonderful job at that, which is now being recognized as he is being inducted into the International Maritime Hall of Fame.

"Congrats @jnewsome3! What an incredible honor. Thank you for your continued hard work and diligence for the state of S.C. and @SCPorts. We are all very proud," tweeted Peter M. McCoy Jr., former US attorney for SC and state legislator.

Other inductees into the Hall of Fame include: Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO, Celebrity Cruises Inc., Miami, Fl; James R. Mara, president emeritus, Metropolitan Marine Maintenance Contractors' Association, Rutherford, N.J.; Nikolas P. Tsakos, president and CEO, Tsakos Energy Navigation Corp., Athens, Greece, and Lois K. Zabrocky, president and CEO, International Seaways Inc., New York City.

Newsome has served at the helm of South Carolina Ports since 2009, making sure that the Port of Charleston remains globally competitive as a top 10 U.S. container port.

Newsome has successfully undertaken vital infrastructure projects. Most notably, S.C. Ports opened the first container terminal in the country in March 2021 — the Hugh K. Leatherman Terminal — adding significant capacity to the East Coast port market at a time it is most needed in the supply chain.
