How the Coast Guard Protects U.S. Interests in International Waters

Speaker: Captain Matthew Brown

We are excited to welcome Capt. Matthew Brown, commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard cutter, the Hamilton. Homeported in Charleston, SC, the vessel and its crew of 160 men and women support international missions in search-and-rescue, drug interdiction, counterterrorism, port security, and environmental protection.

Most recently, the Hamilton deployed with the U.S. Navy Sixth Fleet in Europe. Hear Capt. Brown describe the cutter’s critical national security role in defending the interests of the U.S. and our allies and partners.

Cap’t. Brown was commissioned in 1997 and served at Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, DC. He earned a B.S. in criminal justice at Penn State University, a MS in Inter-American Defense and Security, and an MPA from the George Washington University.

Cost: $45, includes buffet lunch.

Registration with prepayment is required online or via check to World Affairs Council of Charleston, PO Box 21260, Charleston, SC, 29413.
