Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joe Wilson commented on the Fourth Circuit Court ruling involving the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam.

“I am shocked and disappointed that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit ruled against the State of South Carolina regarding the New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam. My colleagues and I in Congress have continued to fight against the Army Corps of Engineers actions, maintaining that the Corps has acted against the clear intent of language of the 2016 Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN), requiring that the pool be maintained at 114.76 feet.

“Should the Corps’ selected plan be completed, the aftermath would be devastating to the North Augusta Community, and our Georgia neighbors, irreversibly lowering the water levels in a manner that would negatively impact recreation, economic development, and industries along the river.

“I look forward to continuing to work with Governor Henry McMaster, Attorney General Alan Wilson, U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott, U.S. Congressman Rick Allen, North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams, SC Representative Bill Hixon, SC Senator Tom Young, and many other state and local officials who have been working together diligently on this issue for many years.”
