Last week, over 100 business and community leaders convened at the Segra Club at Riley Park for an event titled "Impact: Get to Know Our New CEO." The gathering served as an introduction to Kevin Sheilley, who assumed his role as President and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber on February 10. Attendees had the chance to meet Kevin and learn about his vision for both the Chamber and the region's future.

Kevin emphasized that alignment is crucial. He highlighted the need for the Chamber's work to be mission-driven, responsive to business community needs, and supportive of regional partnerships that promote progress. His vision centers around People First, a strategic plan focusing on four key areas: attainable housing, workforce education, transit, and childcare. Kevin noted these are not just community issues but also business issues impacting workforce participation and economic vitality.

A notable part of the evening was a fireside chat between Kevin and Elizabeth Burwell, Chair of the Chamber in 2025. Elizabeth's questions led to a conversation that provided insights into Kevin’s leadership philosophy, professional journey, and enthusiasm for Charleston’s future. His strategic approach was clear alongside his approachable personality.

Afterward, attendees engaged with Kevin directly through questions that sparked discussions about regional opportunities. Dave Echols, President and General Manager of the Charleston RiverDogs, concluded this segment by presenting Kevin with a custom jersey as a welcome gesture.

In his first 90 days, Kevin plans to focus on building relationships by making 100 calls to business and community leaders. This initiative reflects his belief in collaboration's power.

The excitement surrounding his leadership is just beginning. The Chamber anticipates working together towards creating a thriving region for all residents of Charleston.
