Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joe Wilson statement on the passage of the debt ceiling legislation, Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023.

“On April 26, on behalf of American families now and in the future, I was grateful to join House Republicans in passing the Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023, which will limit future government spending, reduce the federal regulatory state, and promote pro-growth energy and economic policies, creating jobs.

“Americans are struggling every day with inflation, rising energy prices, and the highest interest rates in decades, and unfortunately, President Biden has insisted on a blank check to increase the debt ceiling without any reforms to how the federal government spends taxpayer money. This legislation will save an estimated $4.8 trillion over ten years, all while maintaining a strong national defense and protecting Medicare and Social Security, and in exchange for these critical cost-saving policies, the debt limit would be responsibly lifted.

“This historic legislation claws back unobligated COVID funds, sets FY24 discretionary spending at FY22 levels, and caps growth of discretionary spending at 1% per year for the next ten years. All this while maintaining current funding for national defense, veterans, and national security. Additionally, this bill prohibits Biden’s illegal student loan bailout, repeals Green New Deal tax credits, which benefit the Chinese Communist Party, institutes reasonable work requirements for able-bodied citizens receiving federal benefits, defunds the massive expansion of the IRS, increases domestic energy production and exportation, and reduces regulatory burdens across all sectors of the economy, which destroys jobs.”
