Representative Nancy Mace of South Carolina's 1st congressional district expressed her views on a recent legislative decision by the state of Maine regarding female athletes and transgender participation in sports on April 13, 2025. Using social media, she shared her perspective alongside a religious message commemorating Palm Sunday.
On April 13, 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace criticized the decision made by Maine in relation to transgender athletes, stating, "Maine just told every female athlete: 'Sit down and shut up.' Letting biological men steamroll women’s sports—and calling it 'progress.' I call it betrayal. Title IX was meant to protect women, not erase them."
In another post later that day, dated April 13, 2025, Mace tweeted a Bible verse in recognition of Palm Sunday. She quoted John 12:13, "So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!'" and ended with, "Happy Palm Sunday. "
Later, on April 13, 2025, Mace commented further on the legislative actions of Maine, asserting that "Democrats in Maine are torching women’s rights in real time."
Nancy Mace has been representing South Carolina's 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, succeeding Joe Cunningham. She was formerly a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2018 to 2020. Born in Fort Bragg, North Carolina in 1977, Mace resides in Charleston and is a 1999 graduate of The Citadel.
