The Charleston Metro Chamber has officially launched People First: Shaping the Legacy for 2040, aiming to develop long-range economic mobility and quality of life solutions for the region. Inspired by a hopeful vision for future generations, the movement is set to address key areas for improvement to ensure a vibrant and prosperous community.

Chairman of the Charleston Metro Board, Matt Brewer, emphasized the importance of actively working to improve the region for future generations and businesses. Brewer stated, "The Charleston community is an amazing place to live, but we can’t take that for granted."

President and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber, Bryan Derreberry, highlighted the unique moment the region is in, emphasizing the need to envision and actively work towards a thriving community for all citizens. Derreberry expressed, "Our region is at a unique moment. We have the opportunity to envision what we want our future to be and actively work to drive solutions."

Bryan further expressed gratitude towards the board leadership and community leaders who contributed to shaping the future vision. He emphasized the importance of addressing issues collaboratively to shape the legacy for 2040, stating, "Now is the time to address these issues, to collaboratively work together to shape the legacy for 2040."

The People First movement will focus on workforce and livability solutions, with pillars including attainable housing, future-ready education, multi-faceted transit, and quality childcare.
