82 coaches at institutions in Charleston County earned $106,260 on average in 2022

Charleston County’s 82 coaches earned an average salary of $106,260 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the third highest average salary per county earned by coaches at South Carolina post-secondary schools during 2022.

Charleston County is home to three post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, College of Charleston stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $130,734.

Male coaches of men's teams received $162,205 on average in Charleston County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $79,914.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
