Congresswoman Nancy Mace, a key member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, will participate in a hearing titled “Defending America from the Chinese Communist Party’s Political Warfare, Part II.” This hearing is part of the Committee’s ongoing investigation into the influence operations conducted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) within the United States.
For decades, the CCP has aimed to infiltrate and influence various sectors and communities in the U.S. Despite numerous recommendations for action against China provided to the Biden Administration, significant measures have yet to be implemented. The U.S. reportedly loses up to $600 billion annually due to Chinese intellectual property theft. Additionally, over 80% of economic espionage cases brought by the Department of Justice involve China. Hundreds of Confucius Institutes across the U.S. are also cited as platforms for Chinese influence and CCP propaganda.
The hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. ET in Room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
Witnesses set to testify include:
- The Honorable Erik Bethel, Former U.S. Executive Director at the World Bank
- James E. Fanell, CAPT USN (Ret.), Former Director of Intelligence and Information Operations for the U.S. Pacific Fleet and Government Fellow at Geneva Centre for Security Policy
- Ms. Mary Kissel, Former Senior Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State
The hearing is open to public attendance or can be watched live online at Mace.House.Gov/media/hearings.
