Charleston County's three universities invested $10,705,310 on their basketball teams in 2023, a 9.8% increase over the previous year, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

The county’s funding for the basketball teams comprised 20.5% of all money invested in sports teams in 2023.

The average sports expenses in Charleston County have grown 69% since 2010.

College of Charleston stood out as the university in Charleston County that received the most basketball funding during 2023. The institution received $6,274,938 - or 58.6% of all the money destined to basketball teams.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports played at U.S. colleges, as well as football. NCAA basketball teams are often as popular as NBA teams, and offer a different experience for fans.
