Charleston police announce arrest related to multiple armed robberies

The Charleston Police Department has made an arrest in connection to two armed robberies that occurred minutes apart in downtown Charleston.

On August 25, 2024, at around 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery near the intersection of Pitt Street and Montague Street. Minutes later, they were notified of a second robbery in the area of Coming Street and Duncan Street. The suspects pointed guns at the victims and stole their personal belongings.

During an investigation aided by the College of Charleston Public Safety and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Derrick Gaillard (21, of Moncks Corner) was charged with four counts of armed robbery, assault and battery first degree, and criminal conspiracy. Gaillard was arrested on August 26, 2024, and is in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
