The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department has announced an upcoming exhibition at Park Circle Gallery featuring woven fiber works by Kristy Bishop from Charleston, SC, and oil paintings by Anne T. Nielsen from Appling, GA. The exhibit will run from October 2-26, 2024, with a free public reception on Friday, October 4, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Admission is free.

Kristy Bishop's exhibit, "MetaWeaves," showcases a collection of fiber works inspired by the history of tablet weaving. Bishop explains her approach: “By delving into the historical roots of weaving, I honor the craft’s heritage while infusing it with contemporary vision and freedom.” Her work involves meticulously weaving bands with unique patterns and colors using inkle, rigid heddle, and tablet weaving techniques. These bands are then interwoven into evolving compositions that create visual tapestries.

Bishop is a multidisciplinary artist whose work has been featured in exhibitions across the southeast as well as in California, Texas, and Illinois. She has served as an artist-in-residence at several institutions and frequently conducts workshops in collaboration with organizations such as Engaging Creative Minds and the Gibbes Museum of Art.

Anne T. Nielsen's exhibit, "Dreams and Visions," presents a collection of oil paintings exploring symbolism derived from her dreams and visions. Nielsen describes her process: “I have a creative thought or question while awake; then usually in my dreams, the images come fully complete.” She combines old master techniques with abstract marks to bring these dream-inspired images to life.

Nielsen's background includes self-taught metal artistry and theater art direction before she pursued formal studies in painting techniques. Her work blends traditional methods with deeper psychological and spiritual meanings, which she terms Interpretive Nuvo Abstractionism. Nielsen's paintings have been exhibited widely and have received several awards.

Park Circle Gallery is located at 4820 Jenkins Avenue in North Charleston. It offers free admission and street parking on Jenkins Avenue as well as nearby streets and parking lots. The gallery hours are Wednesday-Friday from 11:00 am-6:00 pm and Saturday from Noon-4:00 pm.
