Charleston teens arrested for downtown carjackings

The Charleston Police Department has apprehended several teenagers in connection with two carjackings that occurred in downtown Charleston. The first incident took place on September 17, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Cypress Street. During this event, individuals were robbed at gunpoint by multiple teenagers as they exited their vehicle. The second carjacking happened on September 21, 2024, on Meeting Street. In both instances, the suspects stole the victims' cars and some personal belongings. Both vehicles have been recovered.

In the Cypress Street carjacking, a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old were involved. These same individuals, along with a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, also participated in the Meeting Street carjacking. Detectives have made arrests as follows:

"The 13-year-old and 14-year-old have been charged with two counts of carjacking, two counts of armed robbery, and two counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery," according to police reports. Additionally, these individuals are facing charges for breaking into a motor vehicle on Congress Street about an hour before the Cypress Street incident.

The police report further states that "the 16-year-old suspect was involved in the Meeting Street carjacking and has been charged with carjacking, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime."
