The Taliban has once again targeted Afghan women with new restrictions, continuing a series of measures aimed at limiting their rights. The latest move involves prohibiting women from engaging in activities that allow them to express themselves or communicate freely. This follows previous bans on education and employment for women in Afghanistan.
“First, they banned Afghan women from schools, then from work, and now they can’t even hear each other’s voices?” reads a statement criticizing the Taliban's recent actions. The statement further describes the Taliban's measures as an "obsession with silencing women" that has reached "a ridiculous and frankly horrific new low."
There is a call for international intervention, with emphasis on the role of the United States. “Women around the world are counting on America to show strength on the world stage,” the statement concludes.
This development adds to growing concerns over women's rights under Taliban rule since their return to power in Afghanistan.
