The Charleston Battery fell, 1-0, in a USL Championship men's soccer showdown with the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Sept. 7 at Patriots Point, according to a team news release.

Lewis Hilton's tally in the 63rd  minute proved to be enough for the Rowdies.

In a tight match that saw both teams receive red cards, neither side gained much headway in the first half as they assessed the other's strengths and weaknesses.

“We knew it was going to be a little chippy, I thought we played a really good second half, but we just gave up that one counter and (Tampa Bay) got it in,” Battery coach Michael Anhaeuser said. “We knew we wouldn’t have many chances, but we had a couple of good ones there; we just have to take advantage of it."

The Battery remains in the playoff hunt in the Atlantic Division, as they went on to post two consecutive 1-1 road draws with The Miami FC on Sept. 18, and Atlanta FC II on Sept. 15 on goals from Robbie Crawford and Patrick Hogan, respectively, according to the team website.

Charleston (8-8-6) concludes its three-game road trip Saturday at the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
