Premium Peanut, a grower-owned peanut shelling business, has announced plans to build a new facility in Orangeburg County, according to a press release from Gov. Henry McMaster's office.
It is estimated that this $64.3 million investment will result in the creation of 130 new jobs in the county.
“Premium Peanut is proud of the value we have been able to create for over 400 grower-owners, in addition to providing quality products to customers around the world," Premium Peanut CEO Karl Zimmer said in the release. "We are thrilled to expand our operations and establish our footprint in South Carolina.”

The new facility is expected to open in stages starting in 2022.
Premium Peanut was established in 2014 and shells about 10% of the U.S' peanut production.
The company works with the leading snack, candy, and peanut butter producers in the U.S., as well as clients in over 30 countries worldwide.
