Midfielder Roman Perez recently signed an academy contract with the Charleston Battery professional men's soccer club and is pending a USL Championship league and federation approval.
In a release from the Charleston Battery, the club noted the transaction was completed prior to the league’s official roster freeze earlier this month.
“I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to sign with the Battery on an academy contract,” Perez said in the team release. “It is a dream fulfilled. I’d like to thank my family for supporting me every day in this dream.”
Perez, 18, recently graduated from Myrtle Beach High School. A native of Coatzacoalcos (Veracruz), Mexico, Perez was raised in Myrtle Beach.
Following his senior campaign for the Seahawks, Perez earned an All-State nod for Class 4A by the South Carolina High School Soccer Coaches Association.
He was selected to the Clash of the Carolinas high school all-star game, a competition featuring the top 18 players from South Carolina playing against the top 18 players from North Carolina, according to the team release.
