The Charleston Battery’s grit and spirit was on full display during a come-from-behind 3-3 draw with Pittsburgh in men's pro soccer action Saturday night.

Claudio Repetto had two goals and Leland Archer also scored, as the Battery battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn the tie and salvage a point against the Riverhounds in a United Soccer League Championship clash.

“The guys did a great job, I’m so proud of the players for not dropping their heads, not really giving in after going down 2-0, because that can happen on the road, Battery Coach Michael Anhaeuser told CharlestonBattery.com. “We’re disappointed because you get up 2-3, we worked our way back in, but have to settle for the draw.”

Repetto’s multi-goal effort now gives him seven scores on the season, with the two goals against the Riverhounds marking his first scores since Aug. 20.

Archer’s 35th-minute header was set up by a Robbie Crawford corner kick that just squeezed past Rivehounds goalie Robbie Crawford.

Charleston briefly took the lead in the 81st minute when Repetto blasted home a one-time shot off a volley from Erik McCue.

Repetto said the Battery’s stretch of three unanswered goals speak volumes about the team’s encourage and ability to overcome adversity.

“I think it speaks a lot about the character of this team,” he said. “All of us as individuals react well and when things don’t necessarily go our way, we have that attitude that can come out of situations like today and keep our character to get some really positive results.”

Pittsburgh got goals from Todd Wharton, Shane Wiedt and Alex Dixon.
