The Charleston Battery lost a recent home game to the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 at Charleston’s Blackbaud Stadium.
Battery Head Coach Michael Anhaeuser said that Tampa Bay's defense at the Oct. 2 game was the deciding factor in the match.
“We got off to a good start, we got the ball in the box and got a penalty kick to go up 1-0, that was really something we talked about, get out to that early lead,” said Anhaeuser in the Charleston Battery report. “We were pressing and doing everything, but [Tampa Bay] defended so well, they’re so tough to break down. You’ve got to give them credit for the way they defended tonight.”
Charleston scored first in the match when Claudio Repetto made a goal in the 10th minute.
The Rowdies’ Laurence Wyke evened the game in minute 21 and Sebastián Guenzatti scored the final goal to seal the victory four minutes later.
Midfielder Angelo Kelly said the team will look to get back in the win column Thursday, against the Rowdies again; however, the Battery lost again.
“We’ll look forward to the next one, move past this one, rest and get back to work,” said Kelly after the Oct. 2 game. “We’ve got a big turnaround against them away, so it’s going to be a big rematch.”
The Battery lost to the Rowdies in St. Petersburg on Oct. 7 at Al Lang Stadium, which was the final regular season game for both squads.
