The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, recently named Kristin Call general manager.
Pelicans President Ryan Moore announced Call's - now the team's former associate GM - promotion Dec. 2, in a team press release.
"Working alongside her, seeing her growth as a professional and her commitment to the local community, has been a matter of great personal pride,” Moore said in the release. “Her promotion today assures the long-term continuity of our senior leadership team and lays the foundation for even better days ahead for the Pelicans.”
In 2022, Call will begin her ninth season with the Pelicans, having first joined the team in 2013 as the senior director of marketing before being appointed associate GM in 2018.
“This is a proud day for the Pelicans franchise,” Chuck Greenberg, Pelicans chairman and managing partner, said in the release. “Ryan and Kristin have done an extraordinary job helping the Pelicans navigate through challenging times in 2020 to unprecedented success in 2021. Kristin’s promotion is richly deserved and I’m personally thrilled to have Ryan and Kristin lead the Pelicans into a future that is brighter than ever.”
Call, a native of Barboursville, West Virginia, began her career in 2006 as an intern with the West Virginia Power of the South Atlantic League. She was then hired full-time as the club's director of promotions in 2007, and her position was extended to include director of marketing in 2008.
Two years later, Call was promoted as the Power's assistant GM/marketing two years later, where she was responsible for the team's marketing, community relations, promotions and production, and was named South Atlantic League Female Executive of the Year in 2012.
She then joined the Pelicans of the Low-A East in 2013.
“I’m humbled and honored by Chuck and Ryan’s faith in me with this promotion,” Call said in the release. “The Pelicans have always been leaders within the Minor League Baseball industry and that’s due to the incredible leadership throughout franchise history. I’m delighted to step into this new role and look forward to continuing that success.”
Call also volunteers in the community as an assistant coach for the varsity volleyball team at Myrtle Beach High School.
