One of Charleston’s own is returning home in Brynn Whitehair, who is transferring to the College of Charleston in time for the upcoming women's volleyball season, the college announced.

Whitehair, from Mt. Pleasant, began her collegiate career at Marshall, but said she is looking forward to returning home and looks to play beach and indoor volleyball for the Cougars.

"I am so excited to be home in Charleston," Whitehair said in a release on the college's athletics website. "I grew up going to camps and games since I was young. Both the coaching staff and the team are amazing and I love the campus.”

Whitehair was a 6-foot standout outside hitter at Wando High School, CofC coach Jason Kepner said in the report.

In her senior year at Wando High, she earned 5A South Carolina and Region Player of the Year honors and also was named to the AVCA High School All-Region III Team. She paced the Warriors with 3.8 kills per set that season to earn All-State First Team recognition.

"I am super excited to welcome Brynn back to Charleston," Kepner said. "I have watched her play ever since she was a freshman at Wando. She will definitely add some depth to both programs. We recruited her out of high school and are so happy that we are able to welcome her to the CofC family."

Whitehair will have four years of eligibility as she redshirted the fall season at Marshall.

At Wando, she helped her high school make four consecutive appearances in the state championship match, earning the title in 2020 as a senior.

She received AVCA Under Armour All-America Honorable Mention recognition and was selected to the North-South All-Star Game that season.
