MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (Nov. 18, 2022) – The Town of Mount Pleasant Culture, Arts & Pride Commission has added an eighth mural to its “Paint the Town” public art initiative on the exterior wall at Master’s Studio, 1021 Rifle Range Rd.
Depicting the Ravenel Bridge opening day fireworks display, the Master’s Studio mural was painted by Muzon Cheeks Jr., a professional local artist known for his graphic style of artwork.
“I think Muzon is a wonderfully talented local artist and I feel so fortunate to have his work on my building,” said Michael St. Amand, Master’s Studio owner. “The mural brings joy and smiles to me and our members as we enter the building every day, and for me personally, it’s especially great as he is such a good friend.”
Amand joins several other local business owners who have “donated” an exterior public-facing wall to the Town commission to be used for public art murals.
"Developing creative energy is my highest aim," said Cheeks.
Cheeks has participated in several CAP programs including Art on the Half Shell, Traffic Box Art, and Town Hall Art. He also recently showcased his artwork in the lobby of Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital, where staff and visitors were delighted to spend time watching him paint and talking with him about his art.
Other Paint the Town projects include a Shem Creek scene mural on the bathroom at the Farmers Market Pavilion on Coleman Blvd., a dock dog mural on the side of Bowman Place shopping center, and whimsical child and pet cutouts at the entrance to Liberty Hill Farm on Rifle Range Rd. The first mural completed in the program several years ago, a colorful koi fish on the former Fulton Hair building, was recently painted over when the building sold.
About Paint the Town
The Town of Mount Pleasant Culture, Art & Pride Commission (CAP) works with artists who submit applications to paint their art concept on selected buildings, and with private businesses that submit applications to partner with the town for the project. Selected businesses agree to donate use of a specified exterior wall for the purpose of allowing the mutually-selected artists to paint approved concepts on their property.
