The City of Charleston has announced the commencement of its annual School Supply Drive in preparation for the upcoming First Day Festival. The event, scheduled for Sunday, August 11, aims to provide a back-to-school celebration for children and families, with an immediate focus on collecting essential school supplies for students in need.

The 21st annual First Day Festival is a joint initiative involving the City of Charleston, Charleston County School District, and the South Carolina Aquarium. The festival's goal is to equip students with necessary tools for academic success. Exhibitors at Gaillard and Liberty Square will offer information on community resources and services.

Community support is crucial to ensure every student receives required supplies for the new school year. Donations will be used to create pre-packed bags for students, relying heavily on local generosity.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

Downtown:

- 75 Calhoun Street - City of Charleston

- Arthur Christopher Community Center - 265 President Street

- St. Julian Devine Community Center - 1 Cooper Street

- 823 Meeting Street - City of Charleston

West Ashley/James Island:

- James Island Recreation Center - 1088 Quail Drive

- Bees Landing Recreation Center - 1580 Ashley Gardens Blvd

North Charleston/Daniel Island:

- Daniel Island Recreation Center - 160 Fairbanks Drive

The event's Gold Level Sponsors include United Bank, TD Bank, and Xfinity.
