The Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery at Skatell’s Manufacturing Jewelers on Orleans Road. Officers responded to the incident at 10:38 a.m., where employees reported that an individual entered the store, displayed a firearm, and stole several pieces of jewelry. The employees were restrained with zip ties during the robbery.

The suspect's vehicle was located in North Charleston shortly after 1 p.m. A pursuit ensued involving the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the North Charleston Police Department, leading to the arrest of James Dexter King, 52, from Charleston. King faces charges of armed robbery and four counts of kidnapping.

Further investigation revealed King's involvement in another armed robbery at Pierpoint Coin Laundry on Ashley River Road on November 21, 2024. During this incident, King allegedly brandished a firearm, stole money, and assaulted an individual inside the business. He is also charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, and assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct for this event.

Chief Chito Walker commented on the collaboration between local law enforcement agencies: “This is an excellent example of our local public safety partners working together to quickly get an extremely dangerous criminal off our streets.”

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 or submit a tip online.
