The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce recently marked the graduation of the 2024 Lowcountry Minority Business Accelerator (MBA) cohort on December 11. This event concluded a year-long program focused on supporting minority business owners.

“We’re incredibly proud of our Lowcountry MBA cohort graduates,” said Celeste Granger, Senior Vice President of Programs and Initiatives at the Chamber. “These talented entrepreneurs have demonstrated unwavering dedication and perseverance, investing a year of hard work to elevate their businesses and strengthen the entire minority business ecosystem in the Charleston region.”

Speakers at the ceremony included MBA Instructor Wendell Jones, Nick Correa from Bank of America, Bernard Johnson from Interise, Monique Smalls from Walker and Sons Enterprises, and Dr. Kimberly Butler Willis from GOODSTOCK Consulting. The event also recognized mentors and supporters who contributed significantly to the cohort's success.

This year's cohort consisted of 15 business owners from various sectors, creating a collaborative learning environment.

Launched in 2022 with support from Bank of America, the Lowcountry MBA program aims to help minority business owners expand their companies using the Interise StreetWise MBA curriculum. A key element is developing a personalized three-year Strategic Growth Action Plan (SGAP), which aids participants in refining business practices and strengthening financial positions.

Bank of America has been instrumental in funding this initiative across Charleston, Columbia, and Greenville. “Bank of America is committed to fostering a diverse and talented workforce pipeline in South Carolina,” said Mark Munn, President of Bank of America Charleston. “The Minority Business Accelerator program empowers minority-owned businesses and strengthens our local economy. Congratulations to the 2024 cohort on their graduation and future endeavors.”

Other contributors include Morris Financial Concepts, South Carolina Federal Credit Union, BuenaVista Information Systems, Castle Coaching & Consulting, GOODSTOCK Consulting, Iacofano’s Catering & Events, Rosemary & Rye, and It’s a Win-Win Catering.

Granger expressed gratitude towards mentors and supporters for sharing their expertise: “We’re also grateful to our dedicated mentors and supporters who’ve generously shared their talents... Together we’re fostering a more equitable business environment that empowers minority-owned businesses to thrive."

As these entrepreneurs move forward in their careers they join an extensive network aimed at continued growth.

Congratulations are extended to all members of this year’s graduating class from the Minority Business Accelerator program.
