The City of Charleston is set to test new traffic signal timings over the weekend along the Folly Road corridor, spanning from Fort Johnson Road to Harbor View Road. The Charleston Department of Traffic and Transportation, in collaboration with their traffic engineering consultant AMT, has initiated this effort to ease congestion and enhance traffic flow.

The adjustments are considered temporary, offering some immediate relief to commuters, as expressed in a statement from the spokesperson: "While the changes are minor and not a permanent solution, they aim to provide some immediate relief to commuters."

This initiative represents the first phase of a broader signal retiming project planned for 2025. The project targets significant corridors like Maybank Highway, Folly Road, Wesley Drive, Harbor View Road, and the SC 61 (Fielding) Connector, expecting to make considerable improvements in traffic management.

Acknowledging the community’s support, the department noted, "We appreciate the community’s patience as our team tests data-driven refinements, and we’re hopeful these updates will lead to noticeable improvements along the Folly Road corridor."
