Charleston police arrest teen suspect in downtown jewelry store burglary

The Charleston Police Department swiftly arrested a suspect following a burglary alarm at Croghan’s Jewel Box on King Street. The incident occurred on December 23, 2024, at 6:14 a.m., when officers responded to the scene and discovered a broken window. Officers began canvassing the area immediately.

Within ten minutes, an officer spotted a male wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack on King Street. After pursuing the suspect on foot, police apprehended him. A hammer was found in his possession, along with items stolen from the jewelry store.

Detectives have charged the suspect, identified as a 17-year-old from Ladson, with second-degree burglary (violent) and possession of tools to commit a crime. Further investigation revealed that he was involved in a car break-in on December 18 in the 500 block of King Street. He faces additional charges of theft from a motor vehicle and petit larceny.
