John C.L. Darby, CEO and Chairman of The Beach Company, has been named the recipient of the 2025 Joseph P. Riley Leadership Award by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. This award will be presented at The Honors on March 20 at Dock Street Theatre, with tickets now available for purchase.

The Joseph P. Riley Leadership Award was established in 1992 to honor individuals who have significantly contributed to improving the Charleston community's quality of life and business environment. It is named after a prominent regional leader known for his role in local growth initiatives.

John Darby is recognized for his contributions to real estate development and corporate philanthropy in Charleston. Under his leadership, The Beach Company has expanded across various sectors such as commercial, residential, and resort development throughout the Southeast region. With over 700 employees operating in more than 27 cities, the company remains a significant economic force.

Darby's influence extends beyond business achievements; he is an advocate for corporate philanthropy and has integrated charitable efforts into The Beach Company's operations. He and his family have supported organizations like MUSC Children’s Hospital and United Way, earning them the Outstanding Philanthropist Award from the Lowcountry Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2014.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Darby serves on numerous boards including The Citadel Foundation, where he helped establish the Citadel Real Estate Foundation. His involvement also includes positions with entities such as the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce and South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.

A graduate of The Citadel, John Darby has dedicated his career to fostering business opportunities while promoting responsibility and leadership within the community. His efforts have left a lasting impact on Charleston's social and economic landscape.
