Notices and Information - solid waste service changes for Labor Day
Site Work Scheduled to Begin for Luxury Senior Living Facility Seafields at Kiawah Island
Big Rock Partners, developer of the luxury senior living facility at Freshfields Village, has notified the Town they have closed on the property and received their notice to proceed. In September, they will begin the preliminary site work and construction of the turn lane on Seabrook Island Road. The facility construction phase is not expected to start until later this year or early 2022. That phase will likely have additional traffic impacts on the inbound lane of Betsy Kerrison approaching the roundabout.
Residents should allow more time for travel and expect minor traffic delays on Seabrook Island Road and along the bike path. The Town will provide additional information closer to the facility construction phase.
Seafields at Kiawah Island
is a three-story mixed-use senior living property that will consist of 98 independent living residences and 16 assisted living residences, and an array of amenities and services. More information is available on their website at Seafields.com.

Arts Council Season Planner
The 13th season of fall migration bird banding began on August 15 and will continue through November. Birds are sensitive to ecological changes and are considered indicators of environmental health. Town biologists use bird banding data to monitor and diagnose the health of our ecosystem while also tracking migration patterns and monitoring populations. Turtle Patrol Update
Current Nest Count: 344
- Never harass, touch or disturb hatchlings or eggs.
- Take all items with you when you leave the beach and fill in your holes, as these can be big hurdles for turtles.
- Lights out for Turtles! May - October, all outdoor lighting facing the beachfront should be turned off from 9 p.m. to dawn. Also, no use of artificial light (flashlights, cell phone lights) on the beach at night. It can cause nesting females to abandon nesting attempts and disorient hatchlings as they make their way to the ocean.
