History of Action on the Property
In 2020, Charleston County Planning and Zoning received a proposed rezoning request for 4455 Betsy Kerrison Parkway owned by Sea Island Gold LLC to rezone their property from its current zoning of R-4 (Single-Family Residential - 4 DU per acre) to Planned Unit Development (PUD) for a Sea Island Golf Planned Development.
In February 2021, Kiawah Town Council asked for community input on the proposed rezoning before the March Charleston County Planning Commission meeting, where it is expected to be reviewed. Provided here is a summary of the input.
Based on community input, Kiawah Town Council submitted a letter to the County opposing the rezoning on behalf of the community. Residents were encouraged to provide their comments to the County as well.
In March 2021, Charleston County Planning Commission reviewed and recommended disapproval of their rezoning request for Sea Island Golf Planned Development. The application was scheduled to be considered by County Council on August 31; however, the applicant requested a deferral of the public hearing.
In April 2021, the Town submitted a letter of intent to purchase the property, but the owner took no action.
In October 2021, Charleston County Council was scheduled to hold a public hearing on the proposed rezoning request, but the applicant withdrew the application.
