The North Charleston Police Department proudly announced that Officer Christopher Smith has been honored with the "Lifesaving Award" for his heroic actions in March 2024. According to the report dated April 23, 2024, Officer Smith responded to a welfare check at a residence in Watson Hill on March 29th following a concerning 911 call that had been disconnected.

Upon arriving at the scene, Officer Smith, also known as Ptl. Smith, made a remarkable discovery. Despite initial unsuccessful attempts to contact anyone at the residence, he observed a woman lying face down, bleeding, and unresponsive through a small opening in the garage.
