The City of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department has announced an upcoming exhibition at Park Circle Gallery featuring the works of Charleston-based artist Jirah Perkins. The solo exhibit, titled "Sowing Seeds," will run from May 1 to May 31, 2024, showcasing a collection of works that delve into themes of kinship, community, and identity through visual storytelling.

Jirah Perkins, the winner of the 2024 North Charleston Arts Fest Poster Design Competition, will present her winning design, "PlayPen," as part of the exhibition. The showcase is a component of the annual North Charleston Arts Fest and aims to offer viewers a unique sensory experience through Perkins' use of bold colors, textures, and photography archives in her pieces.

A free public reception is scheduled to take place at Park Circle Gallery on Saturday, May 4, from 5-7pm, providing art enthusiasts with an opportunity to engage with Perkins' creations firsthand.

Born and raised in Charleston, SC, Jirah Perkins is a multidisciplinary artist known for her exploration of themes related to collective work, responsibility, and sudden enlightenment. Through her artistry, Perkins aims to reflect on the importance of cultivating the world as a collective society and draws inspiration from various aspects of her life, including her family, community, and cultural heritage.

Having showcased her paintings in numerous venues across the Lowcountry, Perkins' work resonates with nostalgic elements of adolescence and Black Womanhood, offering a unique perspective on personal and collective experiences.

Visitors can explore Jirah Perkins' exhibition at Park Circle Gallery, located at 4820 Jenkins Avenue in North Charleston, with free admission. The gallery is open from 11:00am to 6:00pm on Wednesday-Friday, and from Noon to 4:00pm on Saturdays.
