Pfc. Jason Marzan has been awarded the Governor’s Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for 2023. Officer Marzan was among five finalists for the award, nominated by the South Carolina Fraternal Order of Police.

Pfc. Marzan was honored for his heroic act of saving a two-year-old girl who fell out of a moving vehicle while exiting I-26, resulting in the amputation of the child’s arm. Due to Officer Marzan’s quick response, doctors were able to reattach the child’s arm.

Governor Henry McMaster presented the award to Pfc. Marzan during a ceremony in Columbia today. Deputy Chief Scott Perry and Capt. Rick Keys were also in attendance.

"Congratulations, sir! We are incredibly proud of you!"
