The North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) has introduced a new virtual reality training system known as the VirTra simulator. This advanced technology is designed to enhance officer preparedness for various high-stress situations, including active shooter incidents and domestic violence calls.

The VirTra simulator offers an immersive, nearly 360-degree environment that accurately replicates real-world settings such as movie theaters, courthouses, and school campuses. This allows officers to engage in dynamic training scenarios where their decisions influence outcomes in real time.

The simulator is located at the NCPD's training center on the campus of Trident Technical College. Additionally, the facility includes a crisis house that provides reality-based scenarios, offering realistic experiences aimed at equipping officers with the necessary tools to handle potential critical conflicts effectively.
