Charleston police arrest suspect in Nassau Street homicide

The Charleston Police Department has made an arrest in connection with the July 5th homicide on Nassau Street.

On July 5, 2024, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Charleston Police officers responded to a reported shooting on Nassau Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Richard Warren, Jr.

During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Terrance Michael Timothy McKelvey, 23, of North Charleston. The Charleston Police Major Warrants Team, with assistance from the US Marshals and the North Charleston Police Department, arrested McKelvey this afternoon, July 8, 2024.

McKelvey is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The investigation remains active, and additional charges are expected.
