The Charleston Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a series of car break-ins and motor vehicle thefts in West Ashley.

On August 9, 2024, at approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to reports of several car break-ins in the Bolton’s Landing neighborhood. The suspect attempted to flee but was captured later that morning as he emerged from the woods on Bees Ferry Road. During his arrest, officers found a handgun in his possession that had been stolen during one of the reported car break-ins.

Detectives subsequently discovered that the same suspect was responsible for multiple property crimes committed hours earlier at the Satori Way Apartments.

Jalen Stuckey, 18, of Charleston, faces charges including resisting arrest, possession of a stolen handgun, seven counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, and three counts of grand larceny. He is currently held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.

"We would like to thank the vigilant neighbors who reported suspicious activity immediately and provided camera footage to our officers," said a police spokesperson. "The series of thefts serves as a reminder that vehicles are not secure storage spaces for valuables, especially firearms. Please lock your doors, look out for your neighbors and report suspicious activity."

Anyone with information related to this incident may contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and request to speak with the on-duty Central Detective or via email at speaktocpd@charleston-sc.gov.
