Representatives from the Charleston County ACT Force recently participated in the International Deflect and Pre-Arrest Diversion Summit held in Seattle, Washington. The summit focused on strategies to reduce overdoses and improve community safety.

Shelby Joffrion, the North Charleston Police Department Opioid Prevention Coordinator, joined forces with representatives from various organizations including the Mount Pleasant Police Department, WakeUp Carolina, Charleston County Coroner’s Office, and the HOPE Center. They shared insights into how collaborative efforts are aiding vulnerable populations in their county.

The discussion highlighted an innovative program called Critical Incident Management Systems (CIMS), which has been instrumental in reducing overdoses and addressing at-risk behaviors through proactive measures. "Of course this coalition continues to grow," said one representative. The program's success has led to its expansion into Dorchester County and facilitated WakeUp Carolina's reach into Berkeley County.

The coalition remains committed to providing awareness and education about opioid use, aiming to reduce overdoses and increase access to services throughout the region. "Together we can and will continue to provide awareness and education, reduce overdoses, and expand access to services in our area with a goal to expand statewide," stated another participant at the summit.
