On July 5, 2024, Charleston Police responded to two separate shooting incidents resulting in two deaths.

Shortly after 1 a.m., officers arrived at a residence on Nassau Street in response to a reported shooting. They found an individual suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, who was pronounced deceased at the scene by Charleston County EMS.

Later that day, shortly after 11 p.m., an officer patrolling the Bridgeview Apartment complex reported hearing multiple gunshots. Additional officers quickly responded, discovered three victims, and provided medical aid. An adult male with a fatal gunshot wound was pronounced deceased at the scene. A second adult and a teenage victim, both with gunshot wounds, were transported to a local hospital. The adult victim remains hospitalized and the teenage victim has since been released.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will release the identities of the deceased victims when appropriate.

There is no evidence or information to suggest that the two shootings are connected, and both incidents stemmed from verbal altercations that turned deadly.

Chief Walker said, “These senseless acts of violence are devastating to our community. It is unacceptable for conflicts to escalate to gunfire. We remain committed to combating violent crime, but we also need the collective support of those in our community to foster conflict resolution skills in our young people. These tragedies are avoidable, and it starts with the values we teach and uphold together.”

No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the on-duty CPD central detective at (843) 720-2422 or via email at speaktocpd@charleston-sc.gov.
