North Charleston updates operations amid Tropical Storm Debby

All City of North Charleston offices will remain closed through Thursday, August 8, 2024. The City Council Meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 8 is canceled.

For accurate and up-to-date information, residents are advised to contact the North Charleston Citizen Information Line at 843-740-5883 or 843-740-5887 (Spanish language assistance is available).

In Charleston County, individuals needing shelter should use the location at 3831 Leeds Avenue (behind the Bond Court), which will remain open for the duration of the storm and will accept both the general population and pets. In Dorchester County, two shelters are open at Charles B. Dubose Middle School, located at 1005 Dubose School Rd., Summerville, SC 29483, and Woodland High School at 4128 US-78, Dorchester, SC 29437. Both shelters are pet-friendly.

Residents are urged to report any structural damage or water intrusion. Reports can be submitted at www.northcharleston.org/damages. City inspectors will visit affected properties to document damage and conduct life safety inspections. For properties with damage noted from initial assessments, inspectors will approach homes to perform a thorough evaluation.

In Charleston County, trash collection is suspended and will resume on Thursday, August 8. Tuesday’s route will be collected on Thursday and Wednesday’s route on Friday. Thursday’s route collection depends upon landfill operations on Saturday. In Dorchester County, trash collection is also suspended with resumption pending tomorrow's weather.

Municipal Court in North Charleston is closed through Thursday, August 8, but bond hearings will take place daily. Individuals with scheduled court dates will be notified by mail of their rescheduled dates.

All recreational and cultural arts programs and activities in North Charleston—including Summer Camp, Athletics, and the Farmers Market—are canceled through Thursday. Facilities such as Athletic Buildings, Community Centers, Senior Centers, and Park Circle Playground will also remain closed through this period.

Sandbag operations have concluded with over 15,000 filled bags distributed.
